Spice Exporter from India

Turmeric, red chilli, cumin, coriander, black pepper and cardamom — machine-cleaned, sortex-sorted, graded to your market's standard.

Quick answer: Green Plus EXIM exports Indian spices including turmeric (Salem, Erode, Nizamabad), dried red chilli (Guntur, Byadgi, Teja), cumin, coriander, black pepper and cardamom — whole, crushed or ground, machine-cleaned and sortex-sorted. India is the world's largest spice producer and exporter. Dried red chilli alone was a USD 1.3 billion export line in 2024, with China the single largest market.

Indian spices for export

India is the world's largest producer, consumer and exporter of spices, and the export trade is bigger than most buyers realise — dried red chilli alone was a USD 1.3 billion export line in 2024, with China taking roughly a third of it.

We supply turmeric, dried red chilli, cumin, coriander, black pepper and cardamom, whole or processed, machine-cleaned and sortex-sorted, from the growing belts that specialise in each.

Variety matters more than most buyers expect

The single biggest source of disappointment on Indian spice orders is under-specification. "Red chilli" is not a specification — Guntur Sannam, Byadgi and Teja are three genuinely different products:

  • Guntur (Sannam / S4) — the volume workhorse, good colour and moderate-to-high heat.
  • Byadgi — prized for deep red colour with relatively low pungency; used where colour is the objective (including oleoresin extraction).
  • Teja — very high pungency, used where heat is the objective.

The same applies across the category. Turmeric from Salem, Erode and Nizamabad differs in curcumin content. Cardamom is graded by size and colour. Specify what you actually need.

How spices are specified for export

  • Variety and origin belt — as above.
  • Moisture — critical for storage stability and for avoiding mould.
  • Purity / admixture — machine-cleaned and sortex-sorted grades.
  • Colour value (ASTA) — for chilli and paprika-type products.
  • Pungency (SHU) — for chilli.
  • Curcumin content — for turmeric.
  • Volatile oil — for cumin, coriander, cardamom and pepper.
  • Form — whole, crushed, ground; and whether steam sterilisation is required.

Testing and compliance

Spices attract close regulatory attention in the EU, USA and Japan — aflatoxin, pesticide residue, and in some cases dye adulteration are all actively screened. We arrange pre-shipment testing on request, and third-party inspection (sgs, bureau veritas, intertek or your nominated agency) can be arranged on request.

Share your compliance checklist and we will confirm the documentation for your shipment.

Spices export FAQs

Dried red chilli is the largest by value, followed by cumin, turmeric and cardamom. China is the single biggest destination for both chilli and cumin, with Bangladesh, the UAE, the USA and Thailand also major buyers depending on the spice.

Guntur (Sannam, S4) for heat and colour, Byadgi for deep red colour with lower pungency, and Teja for very high pungency. They are not interchangeable — specify the variety, not just 'red chilli'.

Colour is measured in ASTA colour value, and heat in Scoville Heat Units (SHU) or ASTA pungency. Byadgi is prized for high ASTA colour with moderate heat; Teja for very high SHU. Tell us the target values your buyer needs.

Steam sterilisation can be arranged on request for markets or buyers that require reduced microbial load without irradiation. Tell us your requirement at the enquiry stage since it affects processing and lead time.

Yes, on request. For EU, Japan and US shipments this is strongly advisable — spices are among the more closely scrutinised food imports in those markets, and pre-shipment testing is far cheaper than a rejection.

Whole spice has the longest shelf life and best flavour retention. Crushed and ground forms are more convenient but lose volatile oils faster and are more susceptible to adulteration — so specification and testing matter more on ground product.
