Pulses Exporter from India

Chickpeas, toor dal, moong, urad and masoor — machine-cleaned, sortex-sorted, whole or split.

Quick answer: Green Plus EXIM exports Indian pulses including kabuli and desi chickpeas, toor dal (pigeon pea), moong, urad and masoor (lentils), whole or split, machine-cleaned and sortex-sorted. Chickpeas were a USD 283 million export line for India in 2024, with the UAE, Bangladesh and Iran the leading markets; lentils a further USD 149 million. Packed in 25–50kg bags or jumbo bags.

Indian pulses for export

India is both the world's largest producer and largest consumer of pulses, which shapes the export trade in a way buyers should understand: domestic demand comes first, and export availability for some pulses varies with the domestic supply position and the policy response to it.

What we export consistently is chickpeas (kabuli and desi), toor dal, moong, urad and masoor, machine-cleaned and sortex-sorted, whole or split.

Specifying pulses

The parameters that determine what lands in your warehouse:

  • Type and form — whole or split (dal), polished or unpolished.
  • Count — for kabuli chickpeas, count per ounce (42-44, 58-60 and so on). Lower count means larger chickpeas and a price premium.
  • Moisture — typically ≤12%. Higher moisture is a storage-stability risk on a product that may sit in a warehouse for months.
  • Admixture and foreign matter — sortex-sorted grades hold much tighter tolerances.
  • Damaged, discoloured and split percentage — for whole pulses.
  • Purity — the percentage of the stated type in the lot.

Storage, fumigation and documentation

Pulses are stored products, which means insect infestation is the main risk between packing and arrival. Fumigation is frequently required by destination markets and we arrange it with the certificate included in the documentation set. Beyond that, expect a phytosanitary certificate, certificate of origin and — on request — a certificate of analysis covering moisture, admixture and purity.

Share your compliance checklist and we will confirm the documentation for your shipment.

Which markets buy Indian pulses?

Chickpeas move primarily to the UAE, Bangladesh and Iran; lentils to Bangladesh, Iraq and Djibouti. Beyond those, diaspora demand in Western markets supports steady smaller-volume trade in specific types and grades. See individual product pages as they're published for the cited country-level breakdowns.

Kabuli chickpeas are larger, lighter-coloured and thinner-skinned, sold by count per ounce (e.g. 42-44, 58-60) and used whole. Desi chickpeas are smaller, darker and thicker-skinned, often split into chana dal. They serve different markets and price differently.

Kabuli by count per ounce — lower count means larger chickpeas and a higher price. Both types are also specified by moisture, admixture, damaged/discoloured percentage and purity.

The UAE, Bangladesh and Iran lead for chickpeas; Bangladesh, Iraq and Djibouti for lentils. Demand is driven largely by South Asian and Middle Eastern culinary use, plus diaspora demand in Western markets.
