Frozen Vannamei Shrimp Exporter from India
Farmed vannamei (L. vannamei) in HOSO, HLSO, PD and PUD forms — block or IQF, count-graded to your specification.
Quick answer: Green Plus EXIM exports frozen vannamei shrimp from India in HOSO, HLSO, PD, PUD and cooked forms, block-frozen or IQF, count-graded (e.g. 16/20 through 100/200) and packed in master cartons for reefer shipping at −18°C or below. Frozen shrimp is India's single largest seafood export, with the USA, China and the EU the largest destination markets. Third-party inspection can be arranged on request.
Frozen vannamei shrimp from India
Frozen shrimp is India's single largest seafood export by both volume and value, and vannamei (Litopenaeus vannamei) makes up the overwhelming majority of it. Farmed primarily in Andhra Pradesh with significant production in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Odisha and Kerala, it's processed near the farming belts and shipped out of Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Kochi and Nhava Sheva.
We supply HOSO, HLSO, PD, PUD, PDTO and cooked forms, block-frozen or IQF, count-graded to your specification.
How do I compare shrimp quotes accurately?
Shrimp is the product where buyers most often compare quotes that aren't actually comparable. Three things have to match before a price comparison means anything:
- Product form. HOSO, HLSO, PD and PUD have very different yields. A "cheaper" HLSO price against a PD price is not a saving.
- Count size. 16/20 and 41/50 are different products at different prices. Compare like for like.
- Glaze and net weight. This is the big one. A price quoted on gross weight with 20% glaze is roughly 20% more expensive than the same number quoted on net weight. Always confirm whether the quoted weight is net of glaze — we quote net, and state the glaze percentage separately.
Testing and compliance for shrimp
Shrimp is one of the most closely regulated products we handle. The USA, EU and Japan all apply antibiotic residue controls, and rejections at destination are expensive and reputationally damaging for both sides. We arrange residue and microbiological testing on request, and third-party inspection (sgs, bureau veritas, intertek or your nominated agency) can be arranged on request.
Share your compliance checklist and we will confirm the documentation for your shipment. See our quality and compliance process for how testing and inspection fit into the shipment timeline.
Which markets buy Indian shrimp?
The United States dominates, taking well over twice the volume of the next largest market, with China second and the European Union third. Southeast Asia, Japan and the Middle East follow. The table below shows the reported quantities — note this particular dataset publishes volumes (MT) rather than per-country values, and we've left the value column empty rather than estimating it.
Shrimp export pricing
Shrimp prices move with farm-gate raw material costs, count-size availability, global supply from competing origins (Ecuador, Vietnam, Indonesia), and demand cycles in the US and Chinese markets. Send your form, count, glaze requirement, quantity and destination port for a current quote.

Notes on this data
Verified directly from MPEDA's own official press release PDF (link above), superseding the earlier aggregator-republication citation. Aggregate figures: total seafood exports FY2024-25 = 1,698,170 MT / INR 62,408.45 crore / USD 7.45 billion. Frozen shrimp alone = 741,529 MT / INR 43,334.25 crore / USD 5,177.01 million (43.67% of quantity, 69.46% of dollar earnings from seafood). Per-country breakdown above is QUANTITY (MT) ONLY for frozen shrimp specifically — the press release does not break out shrimp-only USD by destination. It does give total-seafood USD by destination (US: $2,714.94M / 346,868 MT, of which shrimp is 92.55% of value; China: $1,276.58M / 396,424 MT; EU: $1,125.60M / 215,080 MT; Southeast Asia: $974.99M / 347,541 MT; Japan: $411.55M / 102,933 MT; Middle East: $278.31M / 65,956 MT) — that is all-seafood, not shrimp-only, so it is not used to fill the shrimp value_usd column (would require an estimate, which the site's rule against inventing numbers disallows). A more recent FY2025-26 figure was also seen elsewhere (total frozen shrimp 792,647 MT, USA 256,128 MT, China 169,505 MT, value USD 5,624.48 million) but wasn't used as the primary year here since its country breakdown wasn't independently verified against a primary document in this pass; worth revisiting for a 2025-26 update.

HOSO (head-on shell-on), HLSO (headless shell-on), PD (peeled deveined), PUD (peeled undeveined), PDTO (peeled deveined tail-on) and cooked forms. Each has a different yield and price, so specify the form before comparing quotes.
By the number of pieces per pound — so 16/20 means 16 to 20 pieces per pound (larger shrimp), while 71/90 means 71 to 90 pieces per pound (smaller). Lower numbers mean bigger shrimp and higher prices.
Glazing is a protective ice coating applied after freezing to prevent freezer burn. It's expressed as a percentage of gross weight — 10% or 20% are common. Always confirm whether a quoted price and weight are net of glaze; this is the most common source of confusion in shrimp pricing.
Yes. Residue testing is standard practice for shipments to the USA, EU and Japan, and we arrange testing on request. Tell us your destination market early so the right test panel is used.
