Dried Ginger Exporter from India

Indian dried ginger — unbleached, bleached and powder forms — sourced from Kerala, Karnataka, Meghalaya and Sikkim.

Quick answer: Green Plus EXIM exports Indian dried ginger — unbleached, bleached, and ground/powder forms — sourced primarily from Kerala, Karnataka, Meghalaya and Sikkim. Bangladesh is the largest market by volume, while Morocco, the USA, UAE and EU markets pay materially higher unit values for smaller volumes. Note: fresh ginger carries an additional export restriction in India's tariff schedule that dried and processed forms do not — see below.

Indian dried ginger for export

India is a major global ginger producer, and the export trade runs predominantly on dried and processed forms — unbleached and bleached dried ginger, plus ground powder — rather than fresh rhizome. We source from Kerala and Karnataka, India's traditional ginger belt, along with significant volume from Meghalaya and Sikkim in the Northeast, where ginger is a major hill crop.

Why dried, not fresh

India's export policy treats fresh ginger differently from its dried and processed forms: fresh ginger carries an additional export-licensing restriction that dried, bleached and powdered ginger do not. In practice, this is one reason the dried product is the backbone of India's ginger export trade rather than fresh rhizome — it's both more shelf-stable for long-haul shipping and the more straightforwardly exportable form. If your programme specifically requires fresh ginger, talk to us about what's achievable; for most buyers, dried or powder form is the right specification regardless.

A genuinely useful pricing insight: volume markets vs value markets

Bangladesh buys roughly three-quarters of India's dried-ginger export volume but only about a third of its value — high-volume, moderate-unit-value bulk trade for food-service and retail use. Morocco, the United States, the UAE and European buyers, by contrast, pay materially more per kilogram for meaningfully smaller volumes — generally higher-grade, more processed or retail-packaged product. If you're benchmarking a quote against "what ginger costs," make sure you're comparing like-for-like: a Bangladesh bulk-volume price and a US/EU packaged-product price are not the same conversation.

How should I specify dried ginger?

  • Form. Unbleached, bleached, or ground powder — each serves different end uses and price points.
  • Moisture. Standard export spec caps moisture at 10–12% for whole dried, 10% for powder — critical for shelf life and mould prevention.
  • Oil content. If your use case (flavouring, oleoresin extraction) is oil-content-sensitive, specify a target range — this varies by variety and processing.

Notes on this data

HIGH CONFIDENCE — primary-tier (WITS/UN Comtrade). India world total 2024: USD 98.90M across ~82,258 MT. Bangladesh is ~33% of value but ~75% of volume — i.e. Bangladesh buys low-unit-value bulk ginger while Morocco, USA and the EU buy at materially higher unit values. That value/volume split is a genuinely useful insight for pricing conversations and is worth making explicit in content.

Indian sourcing regions

Kerala (Wayanad, Idukki) and Karnataka are India's traditional dried-ginger belt, alongside significant volume from the Northeast — Meghalaya and Sikkim, where ginger is a major hill-agriculture crop. Fresh ginger is harvested roughly November–January; the dried product we export is processed shortly after harvest, giving a peak dried-ginger availability window of December through March.

Dried Ginger export FAQs

We supply dried ginger — unbleached, bleached and powder forms. Fresh ginger carries an additional export-licensing restriction under India's tariff schedule that the dried and processed forms don't, so dried ginger is both the more readily exportable product and the form most of India's ginger export trade is actually built around.

Unbleached (sometimes called 'rough' or 'unwashed') dried ginger keeps its natural buff-brown skin. Bleached ginger is washed, sometimes limed or peeled, giving a lighter cream-to-pale-yellow appearance that some markets — particularly for retail packaging — prefer. Tell us your market's expectation.

Bangladesh imports Indian ginger in bulk for its own food-service and retail markets, driving high volume at a moderate unit value. The US, Morocco and EU markets, by contrast, buy meaningfully smaller volumes but at a materially higher price per kilogram — generally the more processed, higher-grade or packaged product. Both are legitimate markets; they're just different buyer conversations.

Yes — ground ginger powder is one of our standard forms, packed in 25kg multiwall paper bags or smaller retail-ready packaging on request.

Roughly 12–14 MT in a 20ft container for dried whole ginger (it's a lighter, more voluminous product than a dense grain or seed), rising to 24–26 MT in a 40ft.

Fresh ginger is harvested November–January across our sourcing regions; the dried product is processed shortly after, so peak availability for dried ginger runs December through March. We can discuss off-season availability from stored stock.
